HDA publications

Many Health Development Agency (HDA) publications are available in PDF format below. These publications were either:

  • produced by the HDA, or
  • commissioned by them, but published after its functions were transferred to NICE.

While these publications help support evidence-based decision making by public health practitioners, they do not represent NICE guidance.

Health promotion in childhood and young adolescence for the prevention of unintentional injuries

Accidental injury to children and young adolescents is a major public health problem in all developed countries, and in a growing number of developing countries. However, until the last decade it has received little attention at national or international level. The prevention of accidents was identified as a key area in Health of the Nation, which has set the target of reducing the death rate for adolescents by one third by the year 2005. The former Health Education Authority carried out a review of world literature on the subject of childhood accidents, with a view to providing information about the most effective health promotion interventions.
