HDA publications

Many Health Development Agency (HDA) publications are available in PDF format below. These publications were either:

  • produced by the HDA, or
  • commissioned by them, but published after its functions were transferred to NICE.

While these publications help support evidence-based decision making by public health practitioners, they do not represent NICE guidance.

Black minority groups in England: Health and lifestyles

This report, published in 1994, makes a major contribution to the range of activities for promoting health in black and minority ethnic groups in England as part of a strategy addressing the health needs of these groups. This report concerns itself with health promotion, health promotion needs, stroke, qualitative research, smoking, alcohol, sexual behaviour, exercise and fitness, diet and nutrition, stress and psycho-social health. It is also concerned with determining barriers to achieving and maintaining a "healthy" lifestyle, which may exist in terms of culture, lifestyle, religion, language and perception of health and disease.
