Professor David J Hunter

David HunterCareer history

David has been Professor of Health Policy and Management at Durham University since 2000 where he is director of the Centre for Public Policy and Health in the School of Medicine and Health (www.dur.ac.uk/public.health) and a Wolfson Fellow in the Wolfson Research Institute. He is Deputy Director of the UKCRC Centre for Translational Research in Public Health. He mainly undertakes research on aspects of public health policy and practice. He is co-leading with the Improvement Foundation and IDeA a Leadership for Improving Health and Wellbeing Programme.

David is an Honorary Member of the Faculty of Public Health, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He was Chair of the UK Public Health Association between 2004 and 2009.

David lectures and publishes widely on health policy and management topics. His most recent book commissioned by The Policy Press, The Health Debate, was published in September 2008. He has recently completed with colleagues a review of the public health system in England to be published by Policy Press in March 2010.
