Become a member of the hip fracture Topic Expert Group (TEG)
The Quality Standards team is situated within the Centre for Clinical Practice and is responsible for working with Topic Expert Groups (TEGs) to develop quality standards for a range of settings and audiences related to care pathways or service areas. Derived from the best available guidance, these standards are significant levers for improvement in quality and value. The latest quality standard topic is hip fracture and we are currently seeking to recruit additional members of the Topic Expert Group (TEG).
The NICE hip fracture quality standard will be developed by the group which developed the NICE clinical guideline, the management of hip fracture in adults, on which it will be based. However it has been identified that several additional members are required.
Chairs and members of the Topic Expert Groups are drawn from the NHS, health and social care professionals, patients and carers and academia. They do not represent their organisations but are selected for their expertise, experience of working with multidisciplinary and lay colleagues and understanding of evidence based healthcare.
All members of Topic Expert Groups have equal status, which reflects the relevance and importance of their different expertise and experience. They include health and social care professionals as well as patient and carer members. All group members need to attend regular meetings and undertake background reading.
Skills and experience
We are looking to recruit members with the following backgrounds/expertise and specialist or particular interest in hip fracture care:
Commissioner (likely to be working in a PCT or in new commissioning structures)

Applicants will have experience of working with multi-professional committees or working groups at a national or regional level and will need to work in collaboration with the TEG over a period of approximately 12 months. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written skills are required. Applicants will ideally have experience of guideline development processes, with an understanding of systematic reviews and critical appraisal methods.
Time commitment and conditions

Meetings are held in Manchester or central London. The provisional meeting dates are as follows: Scoping meeting Friday 3 June (Manchester), TEG 1 Thursday 1 and Friday 2 September (Manchester) and TEG 2 Wednesday 18 January 2012 (Manchester).
