William Henry Smithson MB ChB, DRCOG, MSc, MD, FRCGP
Henry Smithson is an experienced general practitioner with wide teaching and research experience. He has been a GP Trainer, GP Programme Director and RCGP Educational Fellow and was involved in the formation of the medical school at Hull York. He moved to the Academic Unit of Primary Medical Care in Sheffield in March 2009. His research interests are in community based care with a focus on epilepsy and self-management of long term conditions including medicines adherence. He is also teaching lead for the Unit and is a member of the University Senate (2011-present). He chaired the NICE Guidelines groups on epilepsy (2004) and medicines adherence (2009) and was a member of the Interventional Procedures Advisory Committee (2006-2009).
He will use the fellowship to engage with local commissioning groups, practice federations and the RCGP faculty board to demonstrate how NICE evidence can inform and speed the commissioning process, to enhance undergraduate and speciality training programmes by using evidence to underpin teaching, research and evaluation and also to
