Public health stakeholder registration
Stakeholder organisations are encouraged to register their interest soon after a new public health guidance topic is published. However, stakeholder organisations can register throughout the development process and contribute from that point onward.
Public health guidance stakeholders
Public health guidance stakeholders are:
- A national patient, carer, voluntary organisation or charity - that directly or indirectly represents the public health interest ,or disease prevention, relating to people covered by the guidance in England
- A national organisation representing the public health, healthcare and other professionals who provide the activities and services covered by the guidance in England
- Local authorities, and representative bodies of local government
- Public and private utilities in England
- Providers and commissioners of public health and healthcare in England
- Commercial industries which are relevant to the public health arena, whose interests may be affected by the guidance
- The Department of Health and other relevant Government departments and agencies.
- Statutory organisations including Care Quality Commission, Ofsted, NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, Health Protection Agency, National Screening Committee, Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, National Patient Safety Agency and Local Government Improvement and Development
- Government or national statutory organisations in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, including NHS Health Scotland, the Welsh Assembly Government.
- Research organisations and academic institutions across the United Kingdom
- Overseas agencies that have a remit covering England, including the World Health Organisation, European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
For practical reasons, local patient/carer and professional groups who are formally linked/ affiliated to a national organisation cannot register as stakeholders, and nor can individuals. However, they are encouraged to participate through an appropriate registered stakeholder. The registered stakeholders for each guidance topic are shown on the guidance summary page.
How to become a stakeholder
Finding out about public health topics
NICE cannot guarantee to notify all organisations that may have an interest in a guidance topic. Potential stakeholders are strongly encouraged to check regularly the list of public health guidance in development.
NICE produces a monthly e-newsletter that gives details of forthcoming guidance, consultations on guidance in progress, and future events. Subscribe to the e-newsletter.
Registering an interest
To register an interest in a particular guidance topic, potential stakeholders should complete a stakeholder interest form. The form asks potential stakeholders to:
- describe their organisation
- indicate who the organisation represents
- outline the contribution the organisation can make to the guidance
- provide contact details for a principal contact
Submitting a stakeholder interest form
Please register using the public health stakeholder registration form.
Registration will be automatic and once the registration form has been submitted , the new stakeholder is entitled to submit stakeholder comments to the relevant consultation. If an organisation does not meet the criteria they will be contacted by the Public Health Coordinator within 28 days. If an organisation does not appear to fit the definition of a stakeholder (see criteria above), registration and any comments submitted will not be accepted. Individuals are not accepted as stakeholders. Please note that normally we can only register one representative per organisation as a stakeholder for each individual topic.
For any queries please contact the Public Health Project Coordinator.
