Percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation for right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction

Guidance issued

Number: IPG237

Summary

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has issued full guidance to the NHS in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland on percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation for right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction.

Description

Right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction is the abnormal flow of blood between the heart and the lungs, often associated with a congenital abnormality. Percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation is an alternative to surgical valve repair or replacement. In this procedure, a catheter is inserted through the skin via a large vein in the groin and into the pulmonary artery. The replacement valve is implanted within a wire mesh, called a stent.
