Keeping up-to-date

NICE provides a range of awareness services and alerts on medicines and prescribing-related topics, to keep you up-to-date.

Controlled drugs

NICE Medicines and prescribing centre provides support to Controlled Drugs Accountable Officers (CD-AOs) and individuals nominated by CD-AOs to support the safe management and prescribing of controlled drugs. Support materials including the Hanbook for controlled drugs Accountable Officers in England' handbook and ‘A guide to good practice in the management of controlled drugs in primary care (England)' are available on the National Prescribing Centre (NPC) legacy website, in addition to supporting a community of practice and news alerts.

Community of practice

NICE provides additional support to CD-AOs by facilitating a community of practice that offers resources and information for those involved in the safe management and use of controlled drugs, including links to essential legislation and guidance. Members of the community include CD-AOs and individuals nominated by CD-AOs (nominees) although many of the resources can support individual clinicians and service managers.

CD-AOs and nominees from England and the home countries can register for access, please contact us for more information.

NICE actively supports this community of practice but does not necessarily endorse content not produced by NICE that can be accessed within discussion groups or shared resource areas.

Events schedule

Controlled Drug Accountable Officer (CDAO) events were planned to be held on the 7 and 19 November 2013. Unfortunately we are now unable to deliver the events on these dates.

NICE apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

News alerts

CD-AOs and their nominees are able to receive news alerts relating to CD-AOs and join a dedicated discussion group to access and share additional resources. If you are a CD-AO you should have received an invitation to join this group.

If you need to register for access, or experience problems logging in, please contact us.
