An estimated 13.7 million working days are lost each year due to stress, depression, anxiety and other mental health issues, at a cost to UK employers of around £28.3 billion per year. We offer advice on how to reduce these costs.

'Informed consent' needed for varicose vein treatment
Up to a third of adults are affected by varicose veins - an annoying and sometimes painful condition. Foam sclerotherapy works in more than 80% of cases, at least in the short term. But new NICE guidance says doctors must fully explain the possible (if rare) side effects - as well as the benefits.

Set up on 1 April 1999, NICE has produced nearly 600 sets of recommendations for the NHS. This has included 88 clinical guidelines on how to treat and care for people with specific diseases and conditions - in fact, NICE is the most prolific developer of clinical guidelines in the world.
