NICE has identified 19 sets of recommendations, on conditions such as depression and hypertension, which if fully implemented by trusts could help to save the NHS millions of pounds.

Sickness absence within the NHS currently stands at 10.7 million days each year, and costs the health service £1.7bn. But there is significant variation in sickness absence across the NHS - with reported rates ranging from 1.75 to 7.42% - which shows that reductions should be possible.

NICE has a range of clinical guidelines and public health guidance related to employees and employers that could help to keep staff healthy and boost productivity.
