The Institute is aware of the speculation about its appraisal of zanamivir for influenza. We do not intend to comment on this appraisal until the process is complete and we have issued our guidance to the NHS and the public.
The appraisal of zanamivir is proceeding according to the published schedule. The Appraisal Committee has had the second of two meetings to consider this technology and the Institute is currently seeking a response on the Committee's final determination from patient groups, professional groups and the manufacturer, each of which have the right of appeal. All these groups are required to keep the information contained in the consultation documents confidential.
