Despite reports in the press NICE has not yet issued guidance to the NHS on this topic.
During the development of its guidance NICE consults with patients, professionals and manufacturers and provides them with the opportunity to appeal.
The Final Appraisal Document (FAD) has been circulated to stakeholders for their consideration in order that they can decide if an appeal is warranted.
The period of consideration closes on Monday 10 June 2002. If there are no appeals then the FAD will be used to prepare the Institute's guidance for the NHS in England and Wales.
If there are no appeals the Institute's guidance will be issued in July 2002.
