Type and Title of Submission

Title:

NICE Compliance Database

Description:

We have designed a database to record all aspects of NICE from publication to Trust compliance levels. We record published NICE guidance and implementation tools available. We record who within the Trust these have been sent to and when. We use the database to track compliance responses and collate evidence supplied to support compliance statements. The database then records compliance levels, gap analysis and action plans. We can then produce compliance reports to NICE guidance for our Divisional Structures, Trust Board and local commissioners. A NICE Guidance Process Flowchart forms part of our Trust NICE Implementation Procedure(attached)

Description of submission

Aim

To record and evidence Trust levels of compliance to NICE guidances.

Objectives

1. Evidence of compliance to NICE 2. Assurance to Trust Board and Commissioners of levels of compliance. 3. Ensuring Clinical Leads receive as much assistance as possible to become compliant to NICE .

Context

Before inception of the database we had no way of recording compliance levels or storage of data evidence.

Methods

1. Designing an in house database to record all aspects of compliance requests, responses and evidence. 2. Having a robust process for NICE guidance with an escalation plan. Fig.1. attached shows details of Published NICE guidance is recorded, who sent to, when, what specialty and compliance response noted

Results and evaluation

Progress is monitored by the report facility of the database.Sharing compliance information to Specialties, Divisions and Trust Board. By interrogating the process we are also able to flag up obstacles to compliance and raise these issues with the appropriate personnel.

Key learning points

A database designed in-house often provides a better tool than purchasing one not written for your personal circumstances or organisational structure. Reports on activity and success drive competition to succeed in compliance. We find that the ability to produce and share report information across the Trust showing levels of compliance and the work that has produced this, raises awareness, shares good practice and provides a stimulus to other areas to explore new initiatives to reach compliance. We also record on our sister Clinical Audit Database those audits that are carried out as a direct result of NICE guidance. Fig. 2. attached shows report facilities available with or without compliance statement. Fig.3. attached shows access to Data Warehouse File, holding compliance evidence under Guidance type and numbering.
