Description of submission
To create a network of leads to work in collaboration to ensure NICE guidance is actively managed across the city of Sheffield.Objectives
1. To identify strategic, operational and clinical leads within each trust to work collaboratively on implementing NICE guidance. 2. To agree roles and responsibilities for each of the leads. 3. To arrange regular meetings to discuss local topical issues and improve communication networks.Context
In the majority of cases, the implementation of NICE guidance has an impact on more than one trust, and ideally there should be systems in place that encourage the ethos of joint working. In order to address this within Sheffield, an investigative city-wide meeting was held in October 2004 to discuss these and similar issues. Following this meeting it was agreed that a city-wide network of leads would be created in order to jointly co-ordinate workloads and collectively monitor progress. The network has also actively promoted and used the Sheffield Ten Stage Implementation Model as a basis for taking this forward.Methods

Over and above the network meetings, the operational leads meet on a regular basis and now actively share information and ideas about how best to resolve some of the issues. Best practice has been promoted and all work collectively to monitor and record progress. The strategic leads meet regularly via a city-wide group and feedback into their respective organisations. Lead clinicians are identified and have worked with the other leads to ensure progress is monitored. There have been no publications to date on this city-wide network.Key learning points
Identify leads who are keen and enthusiastic to participate, in order to ensure such networks are successful. Ensure regular communication is maintained using a variety of media. Arrange regular meetings to maintain momentum.
