Rationale

Reducing the use of antipsychotic drugs for people with dementia is a national priority. People with dementia often experience behavioural and psychological symptoms. These symptoms can often be prevented or managed without antipsychotic medication. This indicator therefore aims to inform the need for further investigation or action where high levels of antipsychotic medication subscribing are found.
