TA165 Organ preservation (renal) - machine perfusion and static storage: review proposal - March 2013

Review of NICE Technology Appraisal Guidance No.165; Machine perfusion systems and cold static storage of kidneys from deceased donors

Proposal to move guidance to the static list

In December 2010, the Institute deferred the consideration of a review of TA165; Machine perfusion systems and cold static storage of kidneys from deceased donors until the results of the Machine Preservation Trial became available.  The results of this trial have now been published.

There is no new evidence that warrants an update of the existing recommendations made in TA165, and the new evidence from the Machine Preservation Trial is consistent with that used in 2008 for the original decision.  Consequently, it is proposed that TA165 should be moved to the static list.

Topics on the static list may be transferred back to the active list for further appraisal if new evidence becomes available that is likely to have a material effect on the last guidance issued.

In order to be completely confident that this is appropriate, we are asking all relevant consultees and commentators, to inform us of any evidence which would suggest that a review would be beneficial.  Please see appendix A for a full list of the organisations we have contacted.
