This NICE quality standard defines clinical best practice within this topic area. It provides specific, concise quality statements, measures and audience descriptors to provide patients and the public, health and social care professionals, commissioners and service providers with definitions of high-quality care.
This quality standard covers the identification, assessment and clinical management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adults including the management of established renal failure.
It was previously called chronic kidney disease quality standard.
28 November 2014
This quality standard has been revised to ensure alignment with the new NICE clinical guideline 182, which updated and replaced the original development source for the quality standard, NICE clinical guideline 73. A revision to a quality standard is recommended when minor amendments may be needed to ensure the quality standard is consistent with updated NICE and NICE-accredited source guidance or address overlap between quality standard topics.
Quality statements 11 – 15 of the 2011 CKD quality standard (QS5) have been removed from this quality standard and are now included in the quality standard for renal replacement therapy services (QS72).
