This quality standard covers identifying, assessing and managing chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adults. It includes assessing disease progression and preparing for kidney failure. It describes high-quality care in priority areas for improvement.

It does not cover care for adults with kidney failure provided by renal replacement therapy services, which is included in NICE’s quality standard for renal replacement therapy services for adults.

In November 2014, changes were made to remove statements 11 to 15 and replace them with statements in the quality standard for renal replacement therapy services for adults. Changes to definitions were also made to reflect the updated NICE guideline on chronic kidney disease.

Keeping quality standards up to date

We checked this quality standard in 2015 and we are updating it. See the development page for progress on the update.
